LSD’s Cultural Resources Team is often involved in the early stages of planning to identify cultural resources that could affect a project. The discovery of cultural resources early in the process provides the opportunity to avoid or preserve cultural resources or to reduce project impacts on them. The initial step in completing a cultural resources inventory is to gather existing information from site and survey archives and historic maps. Our specialists then conduct intensive, on-the-ground surveys to identify the precise location of resources, to evaluate their significance based on surface evidence, or to determine that additional investigations are required to evaluate significance. Our Cultural Resources Team has an extensive history of assisting clients to identify and manage cultural resources while meeting the project’s design objectives and schedule.
